Getting Married? Look At The Types Of Weddings Available

By Wendy Racklave

People all over the world have different cultures, and so weddings also come in various forms and ways. In general, the celebration of matrimony has only four basic types.

The first type is known as religious wedding. Perhaps this type is the most common of all, since it's natural for people with the same faith to marry. But for those who have different religions, this type of marriage may bring conflicts, especially when your partner refuses to give up on his faith.

Nowadays, this problem is being solved by most ministries to allow couples to get married even with different religion, though there are still very strict religions that prohibit this. The best thing to do then is to consult with your own Church in order to work out the harmonious union of two parties.

Money can also be a problem with this type since there are a lot of expenses to spend for in this type of wedding. Couples and participants wear gowns and rent choirs and catering services for the wedding.

The second type of wedding is called a civil wedding. It is the type wherein a judge or a marriage commissionaire facilitates the ceremony outside of church. These persons are appointed by the state to do this function. Often, the vows are being said through ready-made scripts that they read during the ceremony. These weddings may be small or large, depending on the budget of the participants. They may also be indoors or outdoors, but they often take place inside courthouses.

The third type of wedding is the military wedding. If you or your partner is currently serving in the military or a retiree, you may be privileged to have a full military wedding ceremony. This ceremony may take place in military chapels or even outdoors, depending on the arrangement agreed upon. Sometimes the military person carries a sword as the couples exit the aisle.

The fourth basic type of wedding is a non-traditional wedding. This is similar to a civil wedding, but it often takes place between people of the non-traditional religion. Sometimes it gives you the opportunity to be creative with your wedding ceremony, be it a civil or a religious one.

Double weddings, destination weddings, weekend weddings, and same-sex weddings are examples of non-traditional weddings. Double weddings are ceremonies where two engaged parties have a simultaneous ceremony. Destination weddings are those which warrant couples and guests to travel, as in the case of beach weddings. Weekend weddings are those which include weekend activities as part of the ceremony. Same-sex weddings are those which allow persons of the same gender to marry. This is legal in some US states, but it is never allowed in most countries.
